You bought GSA Search Engine Ranker, set up your first project, and pressed start. For about twenty minutes it looked brilliant. Then the submission rate collapsed, the log filled up with download failures, and verification dropped to almost nothing.

Nothing is wrong with the software. You are running hundreds of requests a minute through one IP address, and every search engine and link target on the other end is counting them.

This guide covers what to buy and how much of it: which of the three proxy types actually suits GSA SER, how many proxies your thread count needs, which authorisation method to pick, and what separates a provider worth paying for from one that will waste your threads.

💡 In short

For GSA SER you want private HTTP IPv4 datacentre proxies, roughly one for every 10 threads, spread across several subnets.

One point surprises most people, so it is worth stating up front.

  • Dedicated proxies with IP authorisation are the cheapest option we sell, at $0.88 a proxy. Semi dedicated is not the budget choice here.
  • Plan one proxy per 10 threads. Drop to one per 5 if your projects scrape search engines for their own targets.
  • Datacentre IPv4 is the right call for GSA SER. Residential proxies cost many times more and solve a problem your targets do not have.
  • If GSA SER runs on a VPS, use IP authorisation. The machine has a fixed IP, so there is nothing to log in to and you pay less.
  • Judge a provider on uptime, subnet spread and bandwidth policy. A dead proxy costs you a thread for as long as it stays in the list.

🎯 Why one IP is never enough

Every site GSA SER touches limits how many requests it will accept from a single address in a given period. That limit is not aimed at you personally. It is the default setting of the modern web.

Automated traffic passed half of all web traffic in 2025 for the first time in a decade, according to Imperva’s 2025 Bad Bot Report (Imperva, April 2025). When most of the traffic arriving at a server is automated, rate limiting by IP stops being a special measure and becomes the baseline configuration.

So the failure is predictable. Your single IP gets throttled, then temporarily blocked, and GSA SER keeps feeding threads into a wall. The log tells you the target did not respond. The target responded fine; it just stopped responding to you.

Datacentre server racks of the kind that host dedicated IPv4 proxies for GSA Search Engine Ranker
Datacentre IPv4 proxies are fast and cheap, which is exactly what GSA SER needs.

A proxy list fixes this by giving GSA SER many addresses to work through. When one gets throttled the rest carry on, so a single block slows one thread instead of stopping the project. Free public proxy lists will not do the job: they are slow, they die without warning, and most of them are already burned by whoever found them before you.

⚖️ The three proxy types, and which one to buy

Most proxy guides give you two choices, dedicated or semi dedicated, and tell you semi dedicated is the cheap one. On our service there are three lines, and the cheapest one is dedicated.

TypeShared withPer proxy, per monthBest for
Dedicated, IP authorisedNobody$0.88GSA SER on a VPS. The default choice.
Semi dedicated, user and passwordUp to 3 users$1.00 to $1.25Scraping and testing from a machine with a changing IP
Dedicated, user and passwordNobody$2.12 to $2.50Work that moves between machines and needs a clean IP

Read that table again, because it inverts the usual advice. Sole use of an IP for $0.88 costs less than sharing one with two other people for $1.25. The price difference between our lines tracks the authorisation method, not whether the proxy is shared.

If your tools run on a VPS with a fixed IP, dedicated IP authorised proxies are both the cheapest and the best option. There is no trade-off to think about.

Semi dedicated still earns its place. The IP is shared between up to three people, which means someone else’s activity can get an address flagged for reasons you cannot see or control. That risk is fine when you are learning the software, scraping, or running low volume, and it buys you username and password access from any machine you like.

What nobody should buy for GSA SER is residential proxies. They cost several times more and they exist to defeat heavy bot detection. The targets GSA SER works, mostly web 2.0 platforms, directories, wikis and forums, do not run that kind of defence. You would be paying a large premium to solve a problem you do not have.

🔢 How many proxies your thread count needs

One proxy per 10 threads. That is the figure we have used in our own campaigns since 2012 and it has not needed changing.

GSA SER threadsProxies neededPackagePer month
1001010 dedicated, IP authorised$8.80
2502525 dedicated, IP authorised$22.00
5005050 dedicated, IP authorised$44.00
1,000100100 dedicated, IP authorised$88.00
2,500250250 dedicated, IP authorised$220.00

Halve that ratio to one proxy per 5 threads if your projects find their own targets by scraping search engines. Search engines rate-limit harder and faster than a forum does, so the same proxy count supports fewer threads. Running from an imported site list is much lighter, and one per 10 holds comfortably.

There is a mistake worth naming here. When submissions slow down, the instinct is to raise the thread count, which sends more requests through the same proxies and makes it worse. Add proxies first. If you want more detail on getting the balance right, our guide on reaching 200+ LPM with GSA Search Engine Ranker goes through the settings alongside the proxy count.

Subnet spread matters as much as the raw number. Fifty proxies sitting in one block of consecutive addresses look like one source to anything paying attention. Fifty spread over several subnets and countries do not. Ask any provider how their addresses are distributed before you buy.

Proxy service

🔧 IP authorisation or username and password

This choice decides what you pay, so it is worth a minute rather than a guess.

IP authorisation locks the proxies to one machine. You send us that machine’s IP address, we whitelist it, and GSA SER connects with no credentials at all. Nothing to paste, nothing to leak, and it is the cheapest line we sell.

Username and password authorisation travels with you. The credentials work from any machine, which suits you if you move between a desktop and a server, or if your software handles logins more happily than whitelists.

Almost every serious GSA SER setup runs on a VPS, and a VPS has one fixed IP that never changes. That is the exact case IP authorisation was built for.

If you do not have a server for it yet, our GSA SER VPS is sized for exactly this workload.

Choose username and password if your IP changes, which it will on a home connection or if you work through a VPN. Paying $2.50 a proxy instead of $0.88 to keep whitelisting a new address every week is the wrong way round.

🚩 Red flags when buying proxies

Network cables in a switch, representing proxy subnet spread across multiple locations
Spread across subnets beats a big block of consecutive addresses.

Any one of these deserves a question before you pay. Two together and you should buy somewhere else.

  • A bandwidth cap, or a “fair use” clause with no number attached. GSA SER moves a lot of data and a cap turns into an overage bill.
  • No answer on subnet spread. A provider who will not say usually has everything in one block.
  • Prices far below everyone else with no explanation. Those are normally shared proxies sold as dedicated, or recycled addresses that are already burned.
  • No replacement policy for dead proxies. Some will die; the question is whether you get them swapped.
  • Rotating or backconnect proxies sold for GSA SER. The IP changing mid-session breaks account creation and verification.
  • Support that only exists on a contact form. When 50 proxies stop working you need a ticket system and a reply.

⚙️ Loading your proxies into GSA SER

Buying them is the slow part. Putting them to work takes a couple of minutes.

  • Open Options, then the Proxy tab and add your list. GSA SER accepts a pasted block, so you can drop the whole file in at once.
  • Run the built-in test before you start a project. It reports which proxies answer and which do not, and it saves you blaming the software for a dead address.
  • Tick search engine submission and verification so GSA SER routes those through proxies too. Leaving them on your own IP defeats the point of buying the list.
  • Set your threads to match your proxy count, not the other way round. Ten proxies means around 100 threads.
  • Use an external proxy file if you top up your list regularly. Our walkthrough on updating an external proxy file shows how, so GSA SER picks up changes without you editing settings each time.
  • Keep the automatic proxy test on a schedule so dead addresses drop out instead of quietly eating threads for a week.

One thing people get wrong: proxies do not solve CAPTCHAs. They are separate problems with separate fixes, and a good proxy list will not lift your verified rate if CAPTCHAs are what is blocking you. Our post on improving CAPTCHA solve rates in GSA SER covers that side.

✅ What you get from Asia Virtual Solutions

We have run GSA Search Engine Ranker since December 2012 and we use these proxies in our own campaigns. That is why the packages are sized the way link builders need them rather than the way a general proxy shop sells them.

  • HTTP IPv4 proxies delivered as a list you paste straight into GSA SER.
  • Unlimited bandwidth on every package, with no data caps and no overage.
  • Addresses in 15 countries across several subnets: USA, Canada, China, Estonia, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
  • Packages from 5 proxies to 500, so you can start small and scale without changing supplier.
  • Proxies monitored around the clock, with support tickets and email covered 24/7 from Thailand (UTC+7).
  • Also works with RankerX, SEO NEO, Scrapebox, YACSS and anything else that takes HTTP IPv4 proxies.

Captcha solving and VPS hosting are separate services, which means one support ticket still covers your whole stack if you buy them from us. Prices above were checked in October 2026; the product page is always the current figure.

❓ Common questions

Can I run GSA Search Engine Ranker without proxies?

Only for a few minutes. Your single IP hits rate limits almost immediately at any useful thread count, and submissions start failing while the log blames the targets. A 10-proxy pack at $8.80 a month is the cheapest fix for the most common reason a new GSA SER setup underperforms.

How many proxies do I need for GSA SER?

One proxy per 10 threads, so 10 proxies for 100 threads and 50 for 500. Halve that to one per 5 if your projects scrape search engines for their own targets, because search engines rate-limit much harder than a forum or directory does.

Are dedicated or semi dedicated proxies better for GSA SER?

Dedicated, and on our service they also cost less. Dedicated proxies with IP authorisation are $0.88 each against $1.00 to $1.25 for semi dedicated, so you get sole use of the IP for a lower price. Semi dedicated makes sense only if you need username and password access from a machine whose IP keeps changing.

Do datacentre proxies work for GSA SER, or do I need residential?

Datacentre is the right choice. The platforms GSA SER submits to, web 2.0 sites, directories, wikis and forums, rarely run the heavy bot detection that residential IPs exist to get past. Residential proxies cost several times more and would be solving a problem your targets do not have.

Which authorisation method should I choose?

IP authorisation if GSA SER runs on a VPS, because the machine has one fixed IP, there are no credentials to manage, and it is our cheapest line. Username and password if your IP changes, such as on a home connection or behind a VPN.

Do these proxies support SOCKS5?

No. Everything we supply is HTTP IPv4, which is what GSA Search Engine Ranker uses for submission and verification anyway. If a tool in your stack specifically requires SOCKS5, tell us in a ticket before ordering so you are not buying the wrong thing.

Is there a bandwidth limit?

No. Every package has unlimited bandwidth with no data caps and no overage charges. This matters more than it sounds for GSA SER, because a busy month of scraping and posting moves a lot of data and metered proxies turn that into a bill you did not plan for.

What is your refund policy?

The full terms are on our refund policy page, and it is worth reading before you order. If the proxies are not working in your software, open a ticket first. Most cases turn out to be an authorisation or settings problem that we can sort out the same day.
