7.1 Web 2.0 Posts from Asia Virtual Solutions

Web 2.0 backlinks have been part of link building for as long as there have been free publishing platforms. They still work. What has changed is how much care you have to take, because the easy version — sign up, post 300 words, drop a keyword-rich link — stopped producing results years ago.

This guide covers what these platforms are, how to build a link on one that actually survives, and how to tell afterwards whether it did anything for you.

Быстрый ответ

  • A Web 2.0 site is any platform that lets you publish for free on their domain — WordPress.com, Blogger, Tumblr, Weebly, Medium and the rest.
  • Domain Authority is a Moz metric, not a Google one. A high DA tells you the platform is strong. It does not mean your page on it inherits that strength.
  • Most of these platforms make outbound links nofollow by default. That does not make them worthless, but it changes what you should expect.
  • A thin post with one keyword-rich link gets removed or ignored. A real article that someone might read is what survives.
  • Ссылки Web 2.0 are one part of a profile, not a strategy on their own.

What Are High DA Web 2.0 Sites?

They are platforms that let anyone create an account and publish content on their domain, for free. WordPress.com, Blogger, Tumblr, Weebly, Wix and Medium are the ones most people mean. Because these domains have been around for years and host millions of pages, they carry weight that a new site does not.

The appeal for построение ссылок is obvious: you get to publish on a strong domain without asking anyone’s permission. The catch is equally obvious once you think about it — so does everyone else, which is why these platforms police thin promotional content and why most of them apply nofollow to outbound links.

What Domain Authority Actually Is

This is worth being clear about, because a lot of link building advice gets it wrong. Domain Authority is a score out of 100 invented by Moz. It is their estimate of how likely a domain is to rank. Google does not publish it, does not use it, and has said so repeatedly.

That does not make DA useless. It is a reasonable way to compare two domains at a glance, and it is the number most of the industry quotes. Just do not treat it as a ranking factor, and do not assume a link from a DA 90 platform arrives with DA 90 attached — you are publishing on a subdomain or a folder that almost nothing links to.

DA also moves. Rather than quote figures here that will be wrong in six months, check any platform yourself in Moz’s free Link Explorer.

Rise with high DA Web 2.0

Выявление сайтов Web 2.0 с высоким показателем DA

Not every free publishing platform is worth your time. Three things separate the ones that are from the ones that waste an afternoon.

  1. The domain has real history. Age and an established link profile of its own. A platform launched last year has nothing to lend you.
  2. The content is genuinely user-generated and indexed. Check that pages from the platform actually appear in Google. Some free hosts noindex user subdomains entirely, which makes the exercise pointless.
  3. There is an audience. A platform where posts get read, commented on and shared gives your content somewhere to go beyond the link itself.

Check the third one before you commit. Publish a test post, wait a couple of weeks, and search for a distinctive phrase from it. If it is not in the index, no link on that page is doing anything.

Unleash Web 2.0 power

Step 1: Pick the Platforms

Start with the established names: WordPress.com, Blogger, Tumblr, Weebly, Wix and Medium. They are stable, they are indexed, and they have interfaces that will not fight you. Check each one against the three tests above before you build anything at scale on it.

Step 2: Set Up the Account Properly

Register with a real email address and fill in the profile. An empty profile with a default avatar and one post is the signature of a link-building account, and moderators know it as well as you do. Add a bio, a photo, and something that makes the account look like it belongs to someone.

Step 3: Write Something Worth Publishing

This is the step that decides everything else. A 300-word article built around a link gets deleted or ignored. Write something that stands on its own: a real topic in your niche, properly structured, with images where they help. If you would not put it on your own site, it will not do much on theirs.

Step 4: Use Keywords Without Forcing Them

Research the topic properly and write for it, rather than writing filler and inserting a keyword eight times. Google Keyword Planner, Semrush or Ahrefs will tell you what people actually search for. The page needs to earn its own small amount of traffic, because a page nobody visits passes very little on.

Step 5: Link Within the Web 2.0 Property

If you publish several posts on the same platform, link them to each other. It makes the property look like a real blog rather than a link drop, and it gives crawlers a reason to go deeper than the one page you care about.

Step 6: Link Out to Other Sources

Cite a couple of genuine sources alongside your own link. A post whose only outbound link points at one commercial site is easy to spot. A post that links to two references and your site reads like an article.

Step 7: Vary the Anchor Text

Do not use the same keyword-rich anchor every time. A natural profile is mostly brand names and partial matches, with exact match kept small and a real share of plain phrases like “this guide” or “read more”. Those generic anchors are not wasted — they are part of what makes the profile look earned. Our руководство по вариантам текста-якоря sets out the ratios we use.

Step 8: Keep the Property Alive

One post and then silence is the most common way these accounts die. Add something every few weeks. An abandoned property is the first thing a platform clears out when it prunes inactive accounts, and your link goes with it.

Best Practices for Backlink Creation

  • Fewer, better properties. Five well-maintained Web 2.0 blogs beat fifty abandoned ones, and they take less time in total.
  • Mix your anchors. Brand, partial match, generic and bare URL, with exact match kept small.
  • Take part where the platform has a community. On Medium and Tumblr especially, engagement is what gets a post seen at all.
  • Check your links still exist. Platforms delete accounts. Re-check the ones you built a few months ago.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. The same exact-match anchor every time. The clearest footprint there is, and the easiest to avoid.
  2. Spun or thin content. Platforms remove it, and even when they do not, a page nobody reads passes very little.
  3. Treating Web 2.0 as the whole strategy. A profile made only of free-platform links looks exactly like what it is. Mix in guest posts, citations and editorial links.
  4. Assuming the links are dofollow. Most are not. Check before you build a hundred of them expecting link equity.

Мониторинг влияния ваших обратных ссылок

Building the links is half the job. Knowing whether they did anything is the other half, and it is the half most people skip.

Why Tracking Matters

  • You find out which platforms are worth repeating and which produced nothing.
  • You spot links that have quietly disappeared when an account was pruned.
  • You stop spending time on a platform that stopped working months ago.

Tools for Backlink Monitoring

  • Google Search Console. Free, and the only source that shows what Google itself has recorded pointing at your site. Start here.
  • Ahrefs. The most complete picture of new and lost backlinks, anchor text distribution and referring domains.
  • Semrush. Similar coverage, with a toxicity score that is useful as a prompt to look rather than as a verdict.

Reading the Data

  • Referring domains matter more than total backlinks. Twenty links from one Web 2.0 property is one domain, not twenty.
  • Авторитет домена is Moz’s estimate, useful for comparison and nothing more. See the explanation above.
  • Anchor text distribution is where a link-building footprint shows up first. Watch the exact-match share.

Acting on What You Find

Repeat what worked and stop what did not. If one platform produced links that stuck and pages that got indexed, build more there. If another swallowed six hours and produced nothing indexable, drop it. Re-check every few months, because platforms change their policies without announcing it.

Leveraging High DA Web 2.0 Sites in Your SEO Strategy

Web 2.0 links do a specific job. They add variety to a profile, they give you pages you fully control, and they can hold a link while you work on harder placements. What they do not do is carry a site on their own.

What Decides Whether a Web 2.0 Link Is Worth Anything

Three questions, in order. Get an honest answer to each before you build fifty of them.

  1. Does the page get indexed? Publish, wait, search a distinctive phrase from the post. No index, no value. This single check rules out more platforms than anything else.
  2. Is the link dofollow? View the source and look at the рел attribute. Most free platforms apply nofollow. A nofollow link still has uses — discovery, referral traffic, profile variety — but it is not what most people are building for.
  3. Does the post survive? Come back in a month. If the account was cleared or the post removed for being promotional, the platform has told you what it thinks of that kind of content.

A platform that passes all three is worth building on properly. One that fails the first is worth nothing at all, whatever its Domain Authority says.

Where Web 2.0 Fits Alongside Everything Else

Treat these as the foundation layer. They are cheap, you control them, and they diversify a profile that would otherwise be all one kind of link. Above them you want placements you cannot create yourself — guest posts, industry citations, coverage. A profile made only of links you built for yourself reads as exactly that.

Web 2.0 Backlink Questions

Do Web 2.0 backlinks still work in 2026?

Yes, with a caveat. They work as part of a varied profile when the posts are real content on platforms that index them. They stopped working years ago as a standalone tactic built on thin, spun posts. The difference is entirely in how they are built.

Are Web 2.0 links dofollow or nofollow?

Most are nofollow, and platforms change this without notice. Check the page source for the рел attribute on your link rather than assuming. A nofollow link is still worth having for referral traffic and profile variety, but do not build a hundred of them expecting link equity.

Does a DA 90 platform give me a DA 90 backlink?

No, and this is the most common misunderstanding about Web 2.0 links. You publish on a subdomain or a folder that almost nothing links to. The platform’s authority is not transferred to your page. Your page has to earn its own links and traffic like any other.

Does Google use Domain Authority?

No. Domain Authority is a score out of 100 created by Moz as their own estimate of ranking ability. Google does not publish it and does not use it. It is a useful way to compare two domains quickly, and that is all it is.

How many Web 2.0 backlinks should I build?

There is no correct number, and anyone quoting one is guessing. A better question is how many properties you can maintain with real posts. Five you keep alive will do more than fifty you abandon, and they will not leave the same footprint.

Can Web 2.0 backlinks hurt my site?

Built badly, they can waste your time and leave an obvious pattern — identical anchors, thin posts, dozens of accounts created the same week. Google is generally good at ignoring low-value links rather than penalising for them, but a profile that is visibly manufactured is not helping you either.

Having Web 2.0 Backlinks Built for You

Everything above is doable yourself. It is also slow. Setting up properties, writing posts worth publishing, varying the anchors and coming back to keep the accounts alive is real work, and it is the maintenance that most people give up on.

If you would rather not do it, Asia Virtual Solutions builds Web 2.0 posts as a service, on platforms we have tested for indexing ourselves, with the anchor text spread out the way this guide describes.
