  1. Choosing relevant keywords

Since keywords are the most crucial factor in bringing new users to your site, choosing and using the right ones are extremely important. However, it can be an extremely challenging task as well. Thankfully, there are a lot of tools available online that greatly simplify this quest for the ideal keywords.

Hence, the smarter move is to strategically place the keywords so they are easily visible to the search engine crawlers. Some of such locations include:

  1. Title of the web page

  2. URL of the page

  3. Body text

  4. Names of the images used

So you see, keyword usage isn’t only limited to the plain text you use on your page. However, you should avoid overusing them. According to SEOmoz, 2 to 5 keywords are optimum for a single page.

  1. Using long-tail keywords

These are the longer, frequently-used search queries that function as keywords. For example ‘why do people like eating so much’ is a long-tail keyword. Long tail-keywords may seem counter-productive at first because the probability of people searching for it is much less; however, in the long run, it proves to be better than small keywords because it greatly reduces the competition for SERP space from other related sites. For example, ‘used cars’ will generate a lot of search results whereas ‘used cars in and around Albuquerque’ will be more specific, with lesser competition among sites.

Undoubtedly, proper keyword usage and keyword scraping are absolutely necessary for a successful website because it is the key to a top search engine ranking. With the right insight and the right keywords, you can definitely get there.
